Raider Tennis
Raider Tennis is a co-ed sport. The Varsity and Junior Varsity teams will each consist of 12 boys and 12 girls. This is determined once we know the total number of student / athletes trying out for Hale Team Tennis. At times we carry a "C" team which consists of boys and girls that have never played tennis. There are times when a beginner that demonstrates good playing skills and is able to compete with the stronger players will qualify to play on the Junior Varsity or even the Varsity team.
The season starts at the end of February or early March and typically will continue through the middle of May. The first two weeks are dedicated to working on skills, drills, and conditioning. The determination of whether a student / athlete makes Varsity or Junior Varsity is usually made during the first week of practice. This determination is based on the skills and effort the student / athlete demonstrates during try-outs. Additionally, the coaching staff will be looking at attitude, coachability and whether the student / athlete has any natural athletic ability. There will be a day of basic try-outs where an athlete can demonstrate their abilities followed by several days of challenge matches to determine the rosters.
The season consists of 10 regular team matches, a team tournament at the end of the regular season to determine the Metro League Champion, and an individual tournament to determine the qualifiers that will continue on to the District Championships and ultimately, the State Tournament.
Each team match consists of 3 boys singles matches, 3 girl singles matches, 2 boys doubles, 2 girls doubles, and 1 mixed doubles.
