Hi NHHS Golf Families!
This is just a reminder that we are having a golf team meeting at lunch on Thursday April 24th in room 129. Golfers should grab their lunch and stop by so their voices can be heard on issues like purchasing new golf bags, doing a team shirt/sweatshirt order for the fall, and fundraising.
This is the outline of what we will be talking about, just in case your golfer doesn't bring it home to share with you. We'll also be updating the golf page with Fall 2009 information (i.e. here), please use it as a resource!
* We want to buy new team bags (at least 8), and make them available for purchase for those that are interested. We think it will be about $150 per bag.
* We'd like to encourage all golfers to turn their sports packets in before school gets out. Physicals are good for 2 years, but paperwork needs to be done annually. This will help us have a more accurate roster when the season starts.
* The first day of fall practice will be around the 20th of August (2 weeks before the start of school). We will post to the golf website when we know the exact date.
* Speaking of practice, we do know that the more time golfers can get on the range or on their short game the better they'll play so... Once State is over (May 21st) until July 31st we can have informal practices. Joey and I want to keep it informal and unscheduled but we'll try to be at Jackson a few times a week throughout the summer practice season and encourage our golfers to do the same.
* More practice opportunities are available at GOLF CAMP - yes, you read correctly. Joey and I are planing a summer golf camp July 23rd and 24th at Avalon Golf Links in Burlington. We'll have playing and practice facilities available to golfers who feel confident in their ability to play 18 holes+ in a timely manner. It looks like cost will be $150 per golfer, or $200 golfer parents/chaperones. We hope to have more information to hand out at our Thursday meeting, and will also post to the website.
* Fundraising... yes, building an awesome golf program costs money. Thanks to Lorna and Janine for helping serve up concessions at a recent track meet - the money we earned will go toward our sports booster account! There are also ideas on the table for doing a golf-a-thon, selling something (hats?), doing a car wash, or having a golf themed movie night in the cafeteria. Parent and golfer ideas and participation are critical - if you have an idea or want to help see one out, please let us know.
* Speaking of parent/golfer support - Thanks to Lorna Campbell for being our golf representative at Sports Booster meetings and to our new incoming SB treasurer and golf parent, Barbara. Thanks too to the golfers and families that came to bingo night for BINGO fun or to help!
* Last but not least, the new family welcome night will be May 19th from 6:30-8:30. We'd love to have a golfer and/or parent or two who are willing to help promote our program with the incoming 9th graders and transfer students. Please let us know if you want to help.
