Frequently Asked Questions (& some answers!):
Q: What if I've never played golf before?
A: While everyone is welcome to participate with the golf team, having some prior golf experience is helpful due to the nature of our season and our limited practice times. Players hoping to play in varsity matches need to be at such a level that they understand the rules and etiquette of the game, are able to maintain the pace of play, and have competitive scores. Players not participating in varsity matches, or those that are new to golf, will be given some basic instruction and opportunities to learn and improve their game.
Q: What equipment do golfers need?
A: Each golfer will need clubs, a bag, and golf balls. Players are responsible for having their own equipment, however, the team has access to limited quantities of loaner clubs for those that need them.
Q: How do golfers get to and from practice?
A: Because the golf team is not provided transportation (due to the size of the team), carpooling is a good idea. Parents who are able to drive or are interested in setting up carpools are encouraged to contact the coaches.
Q: What should golfers wear to practice and matches?
A: Golf attire should be worn for all matches and practices. Golf attire consists of a collared shirt and non-denim bottoms (pants, shorts, skirts). Shorts should approach the top of the knee. Athletic attire such as gym shorts and warm up pants are not consistent with golf attire. Hats should be forward facing. If there are questions, please ask the resident golf attire guru, Joey.
Q: How do we score our matches?
A: Boys use a 3 point system, where 3=par, 2=bogie, 1=double bogie, 0=triple and above. As such, a birdie=4 and an eagle=5. Girls use the same system, but they start with 4 points (a change this year from what has been 5). As such, 4=par, 3=bogie, 2=double, 1=triple, 0=quad and above. For girls, a birdie=5 and an eagle=6.
